Prior to reading Life of Pi, I had never read any Booker prize-winning book. If I’m honest, I found literary fiction daunting and often difficult to penetrate; it makes me feel a bit stupid. Such was not the case with Life of Pi, lent to me by a friend when I voiced my complaints tied with my desire to read more outside of my comfort zone.
Life of Pi is a charming book, vivid and beautiful in it’s prose as well as engaging in it’s story. It manages to be literary without being impenetrable and it’s narrative is clever without being smug. I very much enjoyed it.
